The Animal Welfare Alliance (AWA) of Southeast Missouri is registered with state and federal authorities as a nonprofit organization under Section 501(c)3 of the U.S. tax code. The purpose of the Poplar Bluff-based organization is to foster a spirit of cooperation among all public and private animal care organizations and agencies in the area, to encourage and support the adoption, neutering, and spaying of pets and to seek shelter for abandoned animals.
The AWA was formed in September of 2008 in Poplar Bluff, MO with two primary goals, to build a no-kill animal shelter that serves Southeast Missouri and to encourage the spaying and neutering of area pets to reduce the population of unwanted dogs and cats.
The AWA has already purchased property in Butler County where they plan to build a no-kill shelter for abandoned dogs and cats. This dream is one that requires ongoing hard work and commitment. This is where we need your help. The AWA raises money with regularly scheduled events such as Howling at the Moon in the fall and Art for Animals in the spring. Both events have great success, which reflects the desire of area residents to help homeless animals and those in peril.
The AWA sets aside half of all general donations toward future construction of its no-kill shelter. The other half is used for spaying, neutering, vaccinations, and necessary operating expenses.

In 2010, the AWA started an event they called, “Art for Animals”. Artists both pro and amateur prepare 5X7 canvases and submit to Artfully Framed in the Bluff Estates Shopping Center. Artfully Framed proprietor Barbara Pelton, then frames each piece of art and displays them for the AWA, Art for Animals Exhibit and Auction. The canvases are displayed for 2 weeks, prior to the event. The night of the auction is always a great turn out and equally great success.
Displayed throughout the walls in our Dermatology Office, P.C. waiting room are works of art from the past years at Art for Animals. Dr. Yeoman not only has a deep appreciation for animals, but also for art. This is such nice way to appreciate both and also help out a wonderful cause. We hope that you enjoy them as much as we do!
