Skin Care Tips

August 7, 2017

Not only is your skin the first thing that people usually notice when looking at you, but it is also the largest organ that the body has. The appearance of your skin can become a cosmetic concern, and it is often a reliable indicator of your overall health, which is why it is so vitally important to safeguard. Getting and maintaining healthy, radiant skin is not as difficult as you may imagine, provided you follow a good skin care routine and regularly visit our office for skin exams.

Moisturize

Skin that is properly hydrated is better able to withstand the effects of the environment and simply looks healthier than dry, cracked skin. One of the best ways to moisturize your skin is to apply a moisturizer after your morning shower or bath. At this time, your skin is already moist; you just need to lock in that moisture with a good moisturizer.

After applying your moisturizer, your skin should remain moist the rest of the day. Making this a daily habit will ensure that your skin is hydrated and better able to withstand the rigors of your day.

Avoiding Sun Exposure

Exposure to sunlight is one of the most damaging things your skin has to deal with. The sun’s UV rays can prematurely age your skin, dry it out, and cause sun spots and age spots. If you plan to be out in the sun for a while, be sure to wear a hat, glasses, or a good sunscreen to protect your skin from the damaging effects of UV light.

A Note About Hyaluronic Acid

Think of hyaluronic acid as an internal moisturizer. This special substance attracts and holds water like a sponge. However, as you age, your body produces less, which can dry out your skin and lead to premature wrinkles.

A Look at Collagen

Collagen is a very common ingredient in topical skin care products. This important substance lends structure to your skin that promotes facial fullness and volume.
